Utilizing the Lemon Law in Illinois
We are HC Bradley, and we are a law firm committed to defending the rights of Illinois consumers who find themselves stuck with defective vehicles. We focus exclusively on helping individuals navigate the complexities of the Illinois Lemon Law and other consumer protection statutes. If you think you’ve bought a lemon, we want to be your first and only call.
What is the Illinois Lemon Law?
The Illinois Lemon Law provides protection to people who purchase or lease new vehicles that turn out to be defective and cannot be repaired after a reasonable number of attempts. The law generally applies to new passenger vehicles, SUVs, vans, and certain recreational vehicles purchased in Illinois. To qualify, the vehicle must have a defect that substantially impairs its use, value, or safety and must be under the manufacturer’s warranty during the repair attempts.
Under Illinois law, if your vehicle has been subject to four or more attempts to repair the same problem, or has been out of service for 30 or more business days within the first 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first), it may be deemed a lemon. When that happens, you may be entitled to a replacement vehicle or a refund, depending on your situation.
That sounds pretty straightforward, right? Unfortunately, dealing with auto manufacturers, dealerships, and their legal teams rarely is. That’s where HC Bradley LLC comes in.

What Sets Us Apart from other Lemon Lawyers
We take great pride in how we operate. Unlike large firms that treat clients like case numbers, we treat you like a person. Every case is different, and every client deserves an attorney who listens and responds quickly. When you work with HC Bradley LLC, you will always know the status of your case, your rights, and your options.
We also operate on a contingency basis in most lemon law cases. That means you don’t pay us unless we win. The manufacturers are typically required to cover your legal fees if your case is successful, which allows us to represent you without any upfront costs.
What really makes a difference is our familiarity with the Illinois auto market and our relationships with service departments, dealerships, and court systems across the state. We know how to investigate repair records, communicate with manufacturers, and present a compelling case. We’ve helped countless Illinois residents get rid of their lemons, and we are ready to do the same for you.
How the Lemon Law Claim Process Works
When a client contacts us, the first thing we do is assess whether their situation qualifies under the Illinois Lemon Law. We’ll ask you to send in your purchase documents, repair orders, and warranty paperwork. Once we review your materials, we’ll give you a candid assessment of whether you have a viable case.
If you do, we’ll get to work immediately. We’ll notify the manufacturer, compile a case file, and initiate the claim process. Our team will handle the paperwork, negotiations, and, if necessary, litigation. You’ll never be left wondering what’s going on or what comes next. Our goal is to resolve the case as quickly and favorably as possible, so you can move on with a vehicle that meets your expectations.
Common Issues We See in Lemon Law Cases
Although every lemon law case is unique, there are some common problems we see across many cases. These include:
- Transmission failures
- Engine stalling or misfiring
- Electrical system malfunctions
- Persistent check engine lights
- Brake issues
- Steering defects
- Fuel system leaks or problems
In many cases, these problems are not only inconvenient, they can be dangerous. You deserve a vehicle that is both safe and reliable. If your car keeps going back to the shop with no permanent fix in sight, it may be time to take legal action.
Used Cars and Other Options
It’s important to note that Illinois’ Lemon Law primarily covers new vehicles. However, that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck if you bought a used car. Other legal remedies such as the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act or Illinois’ Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act may still apply. We regularly help clients with used vehicle cases, especially when the car was sold with a warranty or when the dealer engaged in deceptive practices.
The bottom line is this, If your vehicle is defective, HC Bradley LLC has tools to help. We’ll evaluate every option and find the best path forward.
