Understanding Indiana'sLemon Law
Indiana’s lemon law is a powerful piece of consumer protection legislation. It was designed to protect buyers of new vehicles that repeatedly fail to meet quality and performance standards. Under the Indiana lemon law, if your new or used vehicle has a substantial defect that cannot be fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, you may be entitled to a refund or replacement.
The Indiana lemon law applies to new and used cars purchased in the state that develop a problem (called a “nonconformity”) during the first 18 months after delivery or 18,000 miles of the vehicle’s original in-service date, whichever comes first. The nonconformity must substantially impair the use, value, or safety of the vehicle and must not be the result of abuse, neglect, or unauthorized modifications by the owner.

Manufacturers are required to make a “reasonable number of attempts” to fix the problem. In Indiana, the law defines this as either:
- Four unsuccessful repair attempts for the same defect, or
- The vehicle is out of service for 30 or more business days due to repairs.
- If your car meets these standards, you may have a valid lemon law claim.

Why the Lemon Law Process Isn’t Always Straightforward
Even though Indiana’s lemon law is written to protect consumers, enforcing your rights isn’t always simple. Many car owners attempt to deal with the manufacturer or dealer directly, only to find themselves stuck in a frustrating cycle of delays, denials, or lowball offers.
Manufacturers have legal teams and procedures in place that often intimidate consumers. They might claim that the issue isn’t serious enough to qualify under the lemon law. They might say that you didn’t give them enough repair attempts or that the defect isn’t covered. Without a legal advocate on your side, it’s easy to get discouraged and give up. Let HCBradley LLC help.

- We Level the Playing Field
You’re going up against a car manufacturer, company with a legal department and resources designed to protect their bottom line. With us in your corner, you’re not alone. We know the strategies these companies use to try to avoid responsibility, and we’re not afraid to hold them accountable.
- We Save You Time and Stress
Filing a lemon law claim can be a frustrating process, especially when you’re dealing with repeated vehicle breakdowns. We handle all communications, legal filings, and negotiations so you can focus on your life while we fight for your rights.
- We Often Work on a Fee-Shifting Basis

What You Can Expect When You Work with HC Bradley LLC
When you contact HC Bradley LLC, we will start with a free consultation to assess whether your vehicle qualifies under Indiana’s lemon law. If we believe you have a case, we’ll gather the necessary records, including:
- Your purchase or lease agreement
- Repair invoices and work orders
- Correspondence with the dealership or manufacturer
- Service History of the vehicle
From there, we’ll build a claim and communicate directly with the manufacturer or their legal team. Whether through negotiation or litigation, our mission is simple: get you the justice you deserve, whether that’s a refund, a replacement vehicle, or cash compensation.
We’ve helped hundreds of Indiana residents through this process, and our track record speaks for itself. We take pride in handling each case with the dedication and care it deserves.
What Happens If Your Car Doesn’t Qualify?
Not every defective vehicle falls under the Indiana lemon law, but that doesn’t mean you’re out of options. Even if your vehicle is used, or if the defect occurred outside the lemon law’s coverage window, you may still have protection under other legal theories, such as the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act or breach of warranty claims.
Let HCBradley LLC take a look. We’ve successfully resolved cases that didn’t technically qualify under lemon law but still resulted in meaningful compensation for our clients.
